Description
Inherent FR Coverall Nomex is a technological garment invention of recent years. Unlike cotton, it is a blend of artificial fibers. The fiber itself is fire retardant, thus fabric with that fiber is inherent FR. A Nomex coverall useful to protect individuals from fire and high-heat environments. It is made from Nomex, a registered trademark for a family of heat-resistant, synthetic aramid fibers developed by DuPont.
Features of Nomex Coverall

Certifications of a Nomex Coverall
- NFPA 2112: Standard on Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire.
- NFPA 1975: Standard on Station/Work Uniforms for Emergency Services.
- EN ISO 11612: Protection against heat and flame.
- EN ISO 1149-5: Antistatic properties.
Composition of Nomex Fabric:
- 93% Nomex
- 5% Kevlar (for increased tensile strength and tear resistance)
- 2% P140 or other antistatic fibers (for electrostatic properties)
- Fabric Weight: Common fabric weights are 4.5 oz/yd² (approx. 150 gsm) or 6.0 oz/yd² (approx. 200 gsm). Lighter weights offer greater comfort, while heavier weights provide more durable and robust protection.
What is inherent Flame Resistance?
It is a fiber level feature of dousing fire when flame source is not intact or removed from contact. Unlike fabrics that are chemically treated to be flame-retardant, Nomex’s flame resistance is an inherent property of its molecular structure. This means the fire protection will not wash out or wear away over time.
